Urology Associates of Fredericksburg

Incontinence

As Urologists, the physicians of Urology Associates have particular expertise in the treatment of urinary incontinence, which is defined as the involuntary loss of urinary control. Urinary incontinence can occur for a variety of reasons, but is not considered to be part of the natural aging process. It occurs in both men and women. Overactive bladder is the most common cause of incontinence and typically responds to a combination of dietary or lifestyle changes, physical therapy, or medications. At UAF we have a wealth of experience in the treatment of severe overactive bladder and are able to employ advanced therapies such as Interstim sacral nerve stimulation and Botox injections for the bladder. Stress urinary incontinence, the leakage of urine that occurs with stress maneuvers like coughing, sneezing, or exercise, represents another type of common incontinence. A wealth of experience allows us to offer patients all treatment options including mid-urethral slings, pubo-vaginal slings (which are created from the patient’s own body tissues) and injectables (such as Coaptite or Macroplastique). Furthermore, we are able to help patients who have failed conventional treatments or who are experiencing incontinence arising from other medical conditions. The doctors at Urology Associates offer comprehensive treatment for all types of incontinence. Our patients benefit from our extensive experience and the most up to date therapies available.
